Surry County joined the NC eCourts system in July 2025 as part of Track 9. This switch moved the county to a modern digital case management platform. New filings now go into the system right away. Older records are being added over time.

The NC eCourts portal is the main online tool. You can search Surry County criminal cases by name or case number. The portal shows charges, court dates, and case outcomes. Basic case data is free. It covers both district and superior court.

For records not yet online, contact the Surry County clerk. Some older criminal history records were filed on paper. These may not appear in the portal yet. An in-person visit or a phone call to (336) 386-3700 can fill in the gaps.

NCGS 15A-146 covers dismissed charges and not guilty verdicts. NCGS 15A-145 applies to certain first-time offenders. NCGS 15A-145.5 covers some drug convictions. Each statute has its own rules and waiting periods. NCGS 15A-150 sets the time frames.

To file, get the forms at nccourts.gov. Submit your petition to the Surry County Clerk of Superior Court. A judge decides. If approved, the criminal history record is erased from public view. The SBI removes it from the state database too. It takes months to complete.
